Thanksgiving Pictures!!!!

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving and took some time to stop and think about what you were thankful for this year. As most of you know, every year I camp at Dana Point (Doheney State Beach), California for Thanksgiving. This is my third year camping at the beach. Raymond and his family have been camping at Dana Point ever since he was just a little tyke. This year we had such a fun time, but very cold! brrr! I was so thankful that all the Morgan's and Bridge's families were there. It was so nice to relax on the beach, hang out with family and friends, eat wonderful deep-fried turkey, and enjoy the beautiful sunsets. I thought I'd share some pictures with all of you of our vacation.

Fictional Book

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks has to be one of my favorite fictional books of all time. I read this book before the movie came out and while I love the movie version, the endings of each are drastically different. The Notebook as many of you probably already know, is a love story between the characters Noah and Allie. They fell in love when they were young and through a falling out went their separate ways. However, both always had a love for each other in their hearts. Fast forward 14 years later, Noah and Allie meet again only this time Allie is engaged to marry Lon. This reunion brings back many emotions and Noah and Allie fall back in love. Allie, who seems to have trouble realizing and committing to the fact that she loves Noah, runs away again. Long story short, Allie eventually realizes she is meant to be with Noah.

In the story, as you read further, you learn that Allie and Noah end up marrying and sharing a wonderful life together. Allie is later diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and Noah has had a number of strokes. But, Noah continues to put her needs before his own. Everyday he reads their story from her diary to Allie. During the readings, Allie comes back and remembers Noah. Noah of course delights in this. I love this story, and all romance novels for that matter, but this story is different because it reminds me of my grandparents so much. Like the characters in the book, my grandparents fell in love early on in their life and have been married for 60+ years, and my grandma has Alzheimer's Disease as well. While her disease has been hard on my grandpa, my grandpa continues to love her with all his heart.

Other fiction books I love:
The Lovely Bones
Rebecca
Fahrenheit 451
The Kite Runner
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The Wedding (The Notebook sequel)
The Guardian
A Bend in the Road
Hangman's Curse
The Very Busy Spider
The Very Quiet Cricket
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?

Something I am OCD About

I am OCD about everything belonging in it's own special place. If it is in a location where it doesn't belong for a period of time, it freaks me out and I must put back or somewhere, where I don't have to see it.

I am OCD about all the electrical switches facing the same way when the electricity is off. When something is "off" the switches face down, not up. And, when one is up and everything is turned off it irritates me. I'm weird I know, my husband thinks its funny too.

I am OCD about finishing what I start. If I start something it must be finished, plane and simple.

I am OCD about always planning ahead. Whether it be for a party, a lesson, groceries for the week, etc. I like to know everything I need ahead of time, so I don't forget something. Along with this OCD of planning ahead follows my OCD of always making lists/spreadsheets for things.

I'm weird I know!

A Recent Photo

I love this picture! It was taken a few weeks ago at Cadillac Ranch with our small group from Vegas Refuge (Hope Baptist Church). We had such a fun evening with our group. We ate an amazing meal, rode the bull, and window shopped all night. I can't wait for our next youth group outing! I love you girls!

A Photo From 10 Years Ago

This picture below was taken December 17, 2000. In this photo, is my family. From top left: my mom holding my baby sis, my daddy-o, my grandpa, my grandma, and myself. I believe we were celebrating an early Christmas with all those family living in Las Vegas at the time. I love this picture, and I can't believe it was taken 10 years ago! Time just flies by!

A Photo That I've Taken

These two pictures below are my absolute favorite pictures that I've taken myself. They're of my little sister and her friend Katy. I took these pictures of them right before they headed off to their freshman homecoming in October 2008. Aren't they so beautiful?!

My friend who is a photographer, thought they were so good that she asked if she could retouch them for me. So here are the retouched versions thanks to my friend Michelle. You can find her Facebook page, ScottShots here.

What I'm Thankful For...

As I'm getting ready to head out of town for Thanksgiving tomorrow, I want to pause and think about what I'm thankful for this year.

I'm thankful for...

my wonderful husband and how much he loves me, my amazing family, my beautiful Refuge girls, my awesome friends, my golden retriever puppy dog, snow on the beautiful Las Vegas mountains, food in our kitchen, a home to live in, the sacrifice Jesus made on my behalf.

What are you thankful for this year? I hope you take some time to think about what it is your thankful for this week.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

A Photo That Makes Me Sad

As most of you already know I'm pro life and have a heart for the unborn. I'm part of a student group, Campus Pregnancy Resources, at UNLV where we provide pregnant and parenting women on campus with the resources they need to continue on with their pregnancy as well as their education. You can find us on facebook at our page here or at our group here. Check out our blog too! According to The Center of Bio-Ethical Reform, each year in the U.S. approximately 1.37 million abortions take place. Worldwide, this number jumps to 42 million! These figures alone make my heart break, but nothing makes me sadder than seeing the aftermath. The picture above, I'm sorry it's pretty small, is of a 10 week old's arm. It is laid across a quarter so that you can get a better understanding of a person's size at 10 weeks. It makes me sad knowing that millions of innocent lives are taken due to abortion each year. It is my prayer though, that the hearts of the women we meet through CPR will be so radically changed to choose life for their baby, and by that we will save more lives. You can visit Abortionno.org to read more statistics. The videos and photos that are on this website are graphic, but are there to raise more awareness of the truth about abortion and to further educate men and women about the growing person inside the mother's womb.

A Photo That Makes My Heart Melt

Seeing this picture always makes my heart melt. This is a picture of Raymond and I while we were dating in high school in 2004. I was 15, he was 17, and we were young and in love.

These two pictures also make my heart melt. These were taken on the day of our wedding proposal at Spring Mountain Ranch. This day was one of the second best days of my life, my wedding being number one of course. Raymond took me to Spring Mountain Ranch early in the morning, prepared a picnic lunch, and was a total gentleman. The day was perfect - beautiful weather and quiet (I was amazed that you couldn't hear the city noise at all). We played frisbee and enjoyed the whole day together. Raymond planned this all on his own, which made it even more special, romantic, and a surprise to me. I thought he had planned this for our 4-year anniversary of being together, but little did I know he had something better in mind: he was going to propose!

Around 3 in the afternoon, we were getting ready to head out, but we still hadn't opened our gifts we had gotten each other yet. I noticed that Raymond seemed a little nervous, and I was completely clueless as to why. Raymond opened his gift first, which now that I look back and reflect on it, may have been the last time he had to mentally prepare himself before popping the big question, but I digress. When it came time for me to open my gift, before I began tearing the gift to shreds, Ray stopped me, took my hand, and danced me to the center of the park field. This completely caught me off guard, I think I even said, "What are you doing? It's my turn to open my gift." Ray told me that gift I was about to open was a dud, and that the real gift he had with him. That's when he got down on one knee and said, "Brittany, we've been dating for four years now. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" In that moment, the world seemed to stop, as cliche as that sounds. Of course I said, "Yes!" Every time I reflect on that day and by looking at these pictures it truly makes my heart melt. God has been apart of Raymond and I's relationship from the very beginning. He has a plan for us and I'm so thankful for that. I'm so blessed I have such a wonderful, sweet, romantic, smart, and manly husband.

Taylor Swift's Love Story is a perfect closing!

We were both young when I first saw you

I close my eyes

And the flashback starts

I’m standing there

On a balcony in summer air

See the lights

See the party, the ball gowns

I see you make your way through the crowd

And say hello, little did I know

That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles

And my daddy said stay away from Juliet

And I was crying on the staircase

Begging you please don’t go, and I said

Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone

I’ll be waiting all there’s left to do is run

You’ll be the prince and I’ll be the princess

It’s a love story baby just say yes

So I sneak out to the garden to see you

We keep quiet ‘cause we’re dead if they knew

So close your eyes

Escape this town for a little while

‘Cause you were Romeo, I was a scarlett letter

And my daddy said stay away from Juliet

But you were everything to me

I was beggin you please don’t go and I said

Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone

I’ll be waiting all there’s left to do is run

You’ll be the prince and I’ll be the princess

It’s a love story baby just say yes

Romeo save me, they try to tell me how to feel

This love is difficult, but it’s real

Don’t be afraid, we’ll make it out of this mess

It’s a love story baby just say yes

I got tired of waiting

Wondering if you were ever coming around

My faith in you was fading

When I met you on the outskirts of town, and I said

Romeo save me I’ve been feeling so alone

I keep waiting for you but you never come

Is this in my head? I don’t know what to think

He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring

And said, marry me Juliet

You’ll never have to be alone

I love you and that’s all I really know

I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress

It’s a love story baby just say yes

‘Cause we were both young when I first saw you

Vinyl Crafts!

On November 13, my besty Brittney and I went to a Super Saturday Craft Day, hosted by the wonderful Melinda Lanier. She hosted six different crafts, four of which I completed and want to show all of you! Most of the crafts consisted of vinyl lettering on wood blocks. Enjoy!

Seasonal Blocks
This consisted of 10 blocks, painted cream, with brown vinyl lettering. This craft makes 40 different words.

Be Blocks
This craft consists of 3 blocks, which I painted a coffee color, with beige vinyl lettering. Some of the phrases this craft makes are: Be still, prayerful, smart, grateful, and humble.

Photo Display
This photo display is made from a piece of sheet metal, and a block of wood painted brown, with beige vinyl lettering. The magnets were also hand-made using a button machine.

Christmas Countdown Blocks
The countdown blocks for Christmas are my favorite! This was made using wood blocks, cream paint, burgundy vinyl lettering on the base, left over holiday scrap book paper, and black vinyl lettering. Mod Podge was used to adhere the paper to the wood and to give a glossy finish to the craft.

I hope these crafts have inspired you to create! Happy crafting!

My Favorite Quotes

"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
~Romans 8:38-39~

"This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being...This Being governs all things, not as the soul of the world, but as Lord over all; and on account of his dominion he is wont to be called Lord God or Universal Ruler..." ~Isaac Newton~

"Purposely I break off the dream and the very vast speculation, merely crying out with the royal Psalmist: Great is our Lord and great His virtue and of His wisdom there is no number: praise Him, ye heavens, praise Him, ye sun, moon, and planets, use every sense for perceiving, every tongue for declaring your Creator...to Him be praise, honour, and glory, world without end. Amen."
~Johann Kepler~ Father of Astronomy

" In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. " ~John 1:1~

"IF we really have been convinced that our Constitution - conceived, written, believed in, fought for, and died for overwhelmingly by Christians and God-fearing people - requires that the Christian faith be taken out of government, then there's really no hope for us as a nation." ~David Kupelian~

"Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of - throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself."
~
C.S. Lewis (Mere Christianity)~

"The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts." ~C.S. Lewis~

"How many things would be different in everyone’s surroundings if we hadn’t lived? How a good word many have encouraged some fellow and did something to him that he did it differently and better than he would otherwise. And through him somebody else was saved. How much we contribute to each other, how powerful we each are-and don’t know it."
~Rudolph Dreikurs~

"Faith is taking the first step even when you can't see the whole staircase."
~Martin Luther King Jr.~

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter." ~Martin Luther King Jr. (I Have a Dream)~

"On some positions, Cowardice asks the question, "Is it safe?" Expediency asks the question, "Is it politic?" And Vanity comes along and asks the question, "Is it popular?" But Conscience asks the question "Is it right?" And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must do it because Conscience tells him it is right."
~Martin Luther King Jr.~

My Favorite Book

My favorite book would definitely have to be the Bible. It is the Word of God, and when everything is said and done, it is the only thing that matters. In it, you learn of how big God's love is and the greatest gift He gave to everyone who puts their faith in His son. The Bible teaches us about what a Godly marriage and family looks like. And, most importantly, teaches us dependence, obedience, grace, hope, and love. As a result of spending time in God's Word you grow more in your relationship with Him and you develop into the man or woman God intended you to be. God's Word is truth and is all I need.

My Favorite Teacher

My favorite teacher ever would definitely have to be my cooperating teacher during the summer of my student teaching, Joy Bartlett. Joy Bartlett taught for 47 years, most of which was spent in the first grade. She mentored me all 12 weeks of student teaching and she has definitely helped shape the teacher I am today. From her, I learned effective classroom management, how to teach lessons, run and organize a classroom, and teach first graders. I'm so blessed to know and to have had her as my cooperating teacher. She is so wonderful and I'm so blessed to know her!

Here are some pictures from my student teaching!

My Definition of Success

Psalm 1:1-6

"Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.

He shall be like a tree.
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper

The ungodly are not so,
But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,

But the way of the ungodly shall perish."

My definition of success is characterized as someone who lives his or her life obedient to the Lord and doing what God has called him or her to do. Their heart is devoted to God, abiding in His Word, committed to prayer, and faithfully obedient.

My Biggest Accomplishment

For friends and family who know me, they would say my biggest accomplishment would be graduating from NSC with my bachelor's degree in education and owning a home all at the impressive age of 21. For myself, I would definitely have to say that my greatest accomplishment would be marrying my wonderful husband Raymond. Raymond is everything I looked for and prayed for in a husband. He loves the Lord with all his heart, first and foremost. He is caring, funny, smart, and a hard worker. He is a wonderful provider and understanding. Raymond respects, honors, supports, and takes care of me. We learn from each other daily and he always seems to teach me something new about myself that I didn't know before. I'm so blessed to have Raymond as my husband and best friend. I can't wait to see what God has planned for our future!

Money Saving Websites

After watching The View today, I got inspired to save more money by using coupons. They had Stephanie Nelson from couponmom.com share tips on how to get the most bank for your buck using coupons. I love when I get a good deal on items! I always try to buy things when they are on sale and occasionally I will use coupons. However, I should be using coupons more when I shop, especially for groceries. You can read or watch the episode here, to find out more about how coupon doubling, stacking, and using coupons with sale items works.

Here are some sites that I found that offer free printable coupons and/or money saving tips:

I know this helped me with getting a better handle on saving money, and I hope it will for you!

Christmas Crafts

Okay, so I know it's not Christmas yet, but that doesn't mean I can't start thinking about different crafts to make, right? Here are some projects that I am thinking about making for the Christmas season. You can find these projects, their tutorials, and more at Elise Blaha's website.

This is kind of like the Fall Inchies I made for fall, but instead this one is for Christmas!

I want to make this wreath, but in Christmas colors.

And this,

This wreath too!

I also want to make this Christmas star garland at Craftideas.info.

I'm also considering making another butterfly wreath like the one I made here - idea from Elsie at ABeautifulMess - but in Christmas colors. I found Christmas butterflies at Michael's! You can find decorative butterflies in the wreath making section, floral department, or Christmas section at Michael's. I might even try a wreath like this or this instead. I know what you're thinking, "This girl is obsessed with wreaths!" I never used to be this crazy about wreaths, but lately I'm loving them. I'm thinking about arranging them in a collage on one of my walls, like Elise did here.

I also want to make this craft too, it's not a Christmas craft, fall craft rather. I've been wanting to make these fabric pumpkins for awhile now. They're so cute!

Awww, so many crafts so little time! What are some crafts you plan to make for Christmas? Are there some none Christmas crafts you've been wanting to make for awhile?

Hope this has inspired you to create!

Day 30: A Picture

Day 30 is finally here! I can't believe a whole month has passed since I started the 30 Day Challenge over at Katie's Journey. This past month has definitely been a challenge. Some of the posts were difficult, got me thinking, helped me to reflect on life, and taught me lessons. The 30 Day Challenge was so great and I am looking forward to the next one! The photo below, I think, sums up the 30 Day Challenge pretty well. The 30 Day Challenge was a journey, but the journey Iim on isn't over yet.

Day 29: 3 Wishes

I can't believe the 30 Day Challenge is almost over, it has gone by so fast! I've had so much fun participating in Katie's challenge and reading other ladie's blogs. Today's entry are my three wishes. It took sometime to think about them, but here they are:

My Three Wishes

1) To be a mother and have as many babies as God gives me.
2) That friends and family who don't know God will one day have a relationship with Him.
3) That God will bring a godly husband into my sister's life.

Field Trip to Mckee Ranch

Last Wednesday, I started volunteering at Lake Mead Christian Academy in my best friend,Brittney's kindergarten classroom and on Friday they had their first field trip. My friend Brittney needed a lot of help so she asked if I could volunteer, which I replied with an absolute, "Yes!" Their field trip was to Mckee Ranch in Las Vegas, NV. To be honest, I had never heard of this place in all my eighteen years of living here. So I was excited to see what this place was all about. When we got there, the whole ranch was decorated for fall and Halloween. There were pumpkins everywhere! There were also lots of animals: goats, horses, mini horses, turkey, rabbits, chickens, and sheep to name a few. We had so much fun watching the little kiddos running around and riding all the animals. And, seeing this ranch definitely put me in the fall spirit...again! I thought I'd share some pictures from our mini trip. Have a great weekend everyone!

By the way, this picture is my favorite!

Day 28: Something That Stresses Me Out

I know everyone has stress in their life at times, but for me stress was something I had 24/7, especially when I was going to college full-time. I started at Nevada State College in the fall of 2008, shortly after getting married and moving into our first condo. Needless, to say I was super busy moving into our home, decorating our home, transitioning into married life, and preparing for the new semester. Each semester I took between 12 and 15 credits. For me, that was a lot and it always seemed to overwhelm me. Homework, teaching observations, field work, tests, preparing for graduation, and getting ready for student teaching literally stressed me out! Some days were hard and I couldn't help but cry because I thought I couldn't handle it. Ray would always tell me to relax and don't worry. It's simple but so true. Nothing good ever comes from being worried and stressed out. Worrying and stressing over things is a waste of time and energy and sometimes there's just no reason to. Then I remembered what the Bible says about stress and worrying:

"Your father knows what you need before you ask him. Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? So do not worry, saying, "What shall we eat?" or "What shall we wear?" For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today's trouble is enough for today." (Matthew 6:8b,25,31-34)

These verses have helped me out a lot to manage my stress and to simply not worry. There are times where I still get worried, but not as much as I used to. In times of stress, I am learning to just give all my fears, worries, and anxieties to the Lord and trust that He will take care of me. This gives me peace and hope for tomorrow.

Day 27: A Picture of Our Pet

Raymond and I have a female Golden Retriever named Lua. Raymond surprised me with her on our one year wedding anniversary. We had been talking about getting a dog for awhile, but didn't know what kind to get. I had always been used to small dogs. Growing up we had one Mini Poodle named Cinnamon. Raymond was used to having Labrador Retrievers and Golden's his whole life. So we compromised and decided that getting a Golden Retriever would be a great family dog for us. So on May 30, 2009, when Raymond opened the front door after arriving home from work, in walks a 10-week old Golden Retriever puppy. I remember like it was yesterday! She brings so much joy to our family and is the sweetest dog I know. Raymond and I love her so much, she's our baby.
