Fictional Book

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks has to be one of my favorite fictional books of all time. I read this book before the movie came out and while I love the movie version, the endings of each are drastically different. The Notebook as many of you probably already know, is a love story between the characters Noah and Allie. They fell in love when they were young and through a falling out went their separate ways. However, both always had a love for each other in their hearts. Fast forward 14 years later, Noah and Allie meet again only this time Allie is engaged to marry Lon. This reunion brings back many emotions and Noah and Allie fall back in love. Allie, who seems to have trouble realizing and committing to the fact that she loves Noah, runs away again. Long story short, Allie eventually realizes she is meant to be with Noah.

In the story, as you read further, you learn that Allie and Noah end up marrying and sharing a wonderful life together. Allie is later diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and Noah has had a number of strokes. But, Noah continues to put her needs before his own. Everyday he reads their story from her diary to Allie. During the readings, Allie comes back and remembers Noah. Noah of course delights in this. I love this story, and all romance novels for that matter, but this story is different because it reminds me of my grandparents so much. Like the characters in the book, my grandparents fell in love early on in their life and have been married for 60+ years, and my grandma has Alzheimer's Disease as well. While her disease has been hard on my grandpa, my grandpa continues to love her with all his heart.

Other fiction books I love:
The Lovely Bones
Rebecca
Fahrenheit 451
The Kite Runner
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The Wedding (The Notebook sequel)
The Guardian
A Bend in the Road
Hangman's Curse
The Very Busy Spider
The Very Quiet Cricket
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?
